Frontier Skydivers grew out of several clubs and groups that had been jumping in the Western New York area since the 1950s. Founded at a meeting in Duff’s Tavern in 1960, the club has since been affiliated with the United States Parachute Association (formerly known as the Parachute Club of America).
Thanks to the efforts of WII era pilots, we got our start. The club jumped at a number of locations throughout the area over the years including: Cambria, the town of Niagara, Orchard Park, Hamburg, Akron, Wilson, Java, Arcade and Batavia. Frontier Skydivers club jumped at Holland’s International Airport in Wilson for the first time in 1974 and has been located there since moving back from Arcade in 1988.
Since the summer of 1964, club members have been entertaining children at Cradle Beach Camp annually with demonstration jumps. The dropzone has been home to many demonstration teams including “The Iroquois Jumping Chiefs” sponsored by Iroquois Brewery, The Parahawks, The Golden Eagles and the Mighty Taco skydiving team.
In 1967, Frontier Skydivers hosted the “North American World Parachute Championships” in Batavia that the U.S. Army Golden Knights attended.
In 1968, a club member set a world record for the most jumps in 24 hours with 111 jumps under round parachutes.
August 1983 brought the first of the Batavia boogies “ACT I” to Western New York.
Our club’s friendly atmosphere brings people back year after year to see old friends and meet some new ones. Those relationships built over the years have brought many people together around the bonfire to share their jumping stories. We’re proud to have one of, if not, the oldest continuously running skydiving clubs in the country.
